[Hong Kong, May 31, 2019] Last week, ZBT unveiled the Convexa-S (ZBT-S1300) OpenWrt home gateway. This latest iteration features notable advancements over its predecessor, the Convexa-B (ZBT-B1300). The Convexa-S integrates the IPQ4029 SoC, boasting enhanced IoT interfaces such as dual UART and SPI. Additionally, it upgrades to 512MB RAM and includes 8GB of pre-installed eMMC memory. This device empowers users to construct their own smart home gateway, connecting multiple wireless devices via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Although the Bluetooth functionality remains in beta and the Zigbee feature is under development, the Convexa-S is an exceptional open-source gateway for home automation enthusiasts.
To showcase its capabilities, we set up a home media center using a new Sonos One speaker. The Convexa-S (ZBT-S1300) served as the primary home router, connected to a USB HDD. Media content was copied to the Convexa-S's internal 8GB eMMC, and the USB HDD remained attached during the demonstration.
We then checked the network sharing locations on a laptop, where the ZBT-S1300 appeared. The location revealed several file folders: "data" for the internal eMMC, and "Personal," "sda1," and "Work" from the USB HDD.
The Sonos One speaker was wirelessly connected to the Convexa-S. After completing its setup process, we modified the settings in the Sonos app. Navigate to More > Settings > Manage Music Library, where no shared music files were initially present.
To add the network share, click the “…” at the upper right corner and enter the music file path: //zbt-s1300/data/Music. By default, no username or password is required.
Finally, navigate back to the Browse tab in the Sonos app and select Music Library. Your music files will now be listed and indexed by artist names.
With everything set up, you can now enjoy your music seamlessly.
