Proactive Strategies to Shield ZBT Users from BSSID-Based Location Tracking

In light of recent studies indicating that individuals can be tracked via Wi-Fi routers, ZBT is implementing proactive measures to enhance the privacy and security of our users. We want to assure our customers that we prioritize your privacy, and our support team is actively addressing this critical issue.

While we advocate for Apple and Google to impose restrictions on database queries, we are moving forward with the implementation of Randomized BSSID in our routers as swiftly as possible. Please refer to the release schedule at the bottom of this page.

Temporary Measures to Enhance Your Privacy

1. Add _optout_nomap to Your SSID: Incorporating “_optout_nomap” in your SSID signals to Apple, Google, and Microsoft not to track the location of your Wi-Fi network.

2. Hide Your SSID: Concealing your SSID prevents nearby individuals from identifying your network name.

3. Use Randomized BSSIDs: Until we integrate this feature into the user interface, you can manually utilize randomized BSSIDs.

4. Disable Phone Location Services: Turning off location services on your phone may help enhance privacy, although it may not be suitable for everyone.

5. Temporary Data Deletion: If you refrain from allowing your phone to track your location for one to two weeks, your data may be purged from tracking databases.

These straightforward adjustments will assist in preventing your BSSID from being identified and your location from being disclosed. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as necessary.
