The Solution: A Travel Router as a Single Device
Traveling with family often means juggling multiple devices, but the typical two-device limit on hotel Wi-Fi can pose a significant challenge. The solution is straightforward: utilize a travel router. By connecting a travel router to the hotel’s Wi-Fi, you create a hotspot that enables all your devices—laptops, smartphones, tablets, and more—to access the internet seamlessly. The hotel’s network will recognize only the travel router as a single device, effectively bypassing any additional device restrictions.
Setting Up Your Wi-Fi Hotspot with a Travel Router
Step 1: Connect to Your Travel Router
Begin by powering on your travel router. Use your smartphone or computer to search for its SSID. Most routers display their default password on a label attached to the device.
Step 2: Access the Admin Panel
To manage your router, you need to access its admin panel. For ZBT routers, this can typically be done by entering “192.168.8.1” into your browser. If this is your first login, select your preferred language and create a new password for the admin panel.
Step 3: Connect to the Hotel’s Wi-Fi
Once logged in, locate the repeater function on the admin panel’s front page. Use it to search for and connect to the hotel’s SSID.
Step 4: Complete the Captive Portal
After connecting to the hotel’s Wi-Fi through your travel router, the hotel’s Captive Portal should automatically appear. Fill out the required information, and your travel router will establish an active internet connection. At this point, your router is fully operational as a hotspot, allowing multiple devices to connect while the hotel’s network still registers it as a single device.
Optional Step 5: Enhance Security with a VPN
For those concerned about the security of hotel Wi-Fi, you can log into your VPN account directly through ZBT’s admin panel. This will encrypt the data for all devices connected to the local network. Here’s how:
1. Access the admin panel of your ZBT router.
2. Navigate to the VPN tab and select the VPN client.
3. Choose your VPN service and log in, or upload your VPN configuration file.
